The Faded Rose Band- Sober (Rising Band & Musicians) (January 2022)
Issue Twenty One- January 2022:
By Mercedes Barreto
When does music have the power and the meaning to resonate with an audience? What makes your musical upbringing a relevant factor? The Faded Rose Band has a unique style that surely resonates with their listening audience in an uplifting yet musical way. We read about their most recent success in this guided article.
What inspired your musical sense of style and why so?
“I grew up in the 90’s when grunge and alternative-rock came onto the scene. I was drawn to artists like Alanis Morrissette, Nirvana & No Doubt. There was something about that raw, in your face mentality that was very inspiring. They brought a different kind of energy to the scene which really helped foster my creativity.”
What marked the beginning for your musical career? What is that one special moment of self realization?
“I’ve been a musician as long as I can remember and I started seriously writing in high school. I had spent several years doing cover gigs in bars, as most musicians do, and got tired of singing the same list of songs over and over again. I began incorporating my original music into my shows and received such an overwhelming response that I decided to shift more in that direction. When Covid hit, I took advantage of the downtime to organize myself and set aside more time to write. With all the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, I realized that waiting around for the right opportunity was a waste and I didn’t want to have any regrets. Once things started to open up a bit, we headed to the studio to record “Don’t Say” and I realized I was done playing cover gigs. I wanted to be an artist on my own terms.”
If you could pick one venue to play in front of two top
music industry pros of choice, who would you pick to
go see you play, and where would that be? Why and how so?
“Well, it’s always easier to play in a larger venue. Small venues are very intimate, which is great, but it’s hard to not be guarded when you can physically feel everyone looking at you. I feel that I perform best when I can lose myself in the music and it’s easier for me to do that in front of a larger crowd. Last year I competed to play at The Hollywood Bowl in California and got pretty far in the competition. Since then, that place has been on the top of my bucket list. If I had to choose two industry professionals to be there, I would choose Ed Sheeran and Elle King. Ed Sheeran is one of my all time favorite artists. He is an amazing writer and I’d love to get the opportunity to write with him someday. Elle King has a unique musical style which I absolutely love. She’s also a kick ass artist who is unapologetically herself and I really look up to her as a musician and as a woman.”
What is an original song you favor which you also feel
resonates the most with your audience? Why and how is this so?
“I think my song “Sober” has resonated most with my audience. I try to leave the meaning behind my songs open to interpretation because I feel that’s the best way for people to connect themselves to the music. However, my goal with this song was to help open people’s minds and hearts when it comes to the subject of substance abuse and mental health challenges. We all know someone who has struggled at one point or another, and for those of us who have experienced life with someone dealing with substance abuse, it can be hard to process the emotions that come along with that. I spent a long time being angry at someone who caused me a lot of pain. I let that anger consume me and needed to let it go for my own peace of mind. I tried to empathize and imagine what it would be like to completely lose control of myself; then the lyrics just bled from me. It was extremely cathartic and I realized it could be that for other people as well. I have been approached by so many people who connected to that song in different ways. Parents who are dealing with an addicted child, others who have lost their loved ones to drugs or alcohol, those who have gotten clean and others who are trying to. There are so many ways to connect to this song and I am so grateful that it has been able to serve a greater purpose and I hope it continues to help people.”
What does music mean to you, or stand for, ultimately?
“Music is a part of me. It’s how I think, it’s how I feel, it’s who I am. It has helped me in so many ways, but ultimately gives me the freedom to express myself and take whatever it is I am feeling and turn it into something tangible.”
Where can we find your band’s music, and more, why should we? What is it that makes your sound that iconic?
“You can find my band’s music on all streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, etc. I think we offer a sound that is a bit unique compared to what is mainstream at the moment, and there is a little something for everyone. We create a nice blend of different genres so hopefully, the music can be appreciated across the board.”
Anything you might add?
“We are getting ready to get back into the studio to record our next album. I am hoping to have it released in early spring, but keep an eye out for it. I will post updates on our website at FadedRoseMusic.com and on social media @FadedRoseMusic “
Questions For The Photographer-
What is the vibe you got when filming/photographing The Faded Rose Band? Was it a sense of passion, or a sensation of pure musical confidence?
“I had been trying to work with Rosie for the longest time, it never seemed to come together, so glad she asked me to shoot her show at Daryl’s House. Very professional in her presentation, working with a band that fully complimented her sound and style.”
Would you recommend the band for future shoots and performance? Why is this?
“As a matter of fact, Rosie already booked me for her next performance at Daryl’s, the first one with was her band Faded Rose, this upcoming show is her solo. I can’t say enough good things about Rosie both as a person performer and songwriter.”
