Introduction

Baby Delgado is an enigmatic New York-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer creating music where gothic atmosphere, post-punk attitude, electronic textures, and emotionally charged songwriting collide. His work possesses a distinctive darkness, but beneath the shadowy production is an unmistakable focus on emotion, desire, heartbreak, obsession, and the complicated nature of human connection. Recent releases such as “Emerald Eyes” and “The Ones” showcase an artist who isn’t afraid to embrace the darker corners of pop and rock. “Emerald Eyes” explores obsessive love, loss, and heartbreak through a hypnotic combination of dark synth-pop, gritty guitars, pulsating rhythms, and atmospheric production.

His latest single, “The Ones,” expands that sonic world into something both romantic and rebellious. Described as a poetic love letter to artists, visionaries, storytellers, and creative outsiders, the track combines shimmering guitars, lush synths, driving rhythms, and soaring melodies with an ultimately uplifting message about continuing to create despite the difficulties that come with pursuing an artistic life. With the forthcoming Black Sunshine EP offering another chapter in his evolving musical identity, we caught up with Baby Delgado to talk about his creative process, his fascination with darker sounds, songwriting, production, artistic independence, and the ideas behind his newest music.

Short Review

Baby Delgado creates the kind of music that feels like it belongs somewhere between a neon-lit city street, a late-night club, and the hazy aftermath of a complicated love affair. His sound is dark without becoming one-dimensional, combining post-punk and gothic influences with electronic production, synth-pop melodies, alternative rock textures, and an unmistakably cinematic atmosphere. “Emerald Eyes” is a particularly strong example of this approach. The song transforms heartbreak and obsessive love into something hypnotic, surrounding the vocals with droning guitars, sparkling keys, muscular bass, atmospheric textures, and a sleek pulse.

With “The Ones,” Delgado reveals another side of his artistry. Q&A

Your music has a very distinctive dark and atmospheric identity. When did you first realize that this was the sonic world you wanted to create?

“My life was very chaotic growing up so I always created worlds in my mind that I can escape to. The first time I saw music live was when I was 16 and this band was playing next door and it opened the bridge from my inner world to this world. My inner word for the most part is a beautiful lagoon in which the moon is always full. Its constantly under threats of violent thunder storms and my evil mental marauders that wish to destroy me and what I’ve built.”

How would you describe Baby Delgado as an artist to someone encountering your music for the first time?

“I would refer to my answer on question on one for the finer details answer. In a simpler form its late 70. 80s pop and post nostalgia with the crow soundtrack thrown in. Which is the first CD I bought just because the cover and changed my life. Set to a dance beat because I’m not quite that old yet and still want to dance.”

You work as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. How does being involved in so many parts of the creative process influence the final sound of your music?

“Most of my life since Ive found music has waned towards the obsessive side. I don’t think Ive ever gotten close to it being what I’ve wanted till lately. Its a dragon we chase that you can only ride for one only minute then your on to the next song. I love every part of making music though. I just can’t play drums. I love collaboration as well. Its the key the best music. I’m just glad technology has caught up with my mind enough to do it alone if need be.”

What usually comes first when you create—a melody, a lyric, a rhythm, a sound, or an emotion?

“Not everything this way but generally if Im not slammed with immediate inspiration. t usually start with a beat and bass line or diving really deep into a sound. That could be a pedal chain or synth sound that just takes up the whole space and creates its own world. Then vocally I rip a ton of freestyle takes and what naturally. Then I’ll come back the next day finding these wild lines that can surprise you. Taking anything that really strikes home and like a stone sculpture keep chipping away at the general idea and hashing out every line. I think lyrics nowadays take a back seat. I try to spend as much time as the music on them. Aiming for the greats like Leonard Cohen and Kris Kristofferson.”

Where can we hear more, and why should we?

“Well you can find one what I’ve done on all the normal sites. Have a bunch of stuff outside of Baby Delgado because like a plumber its my life’s work. I have an EP coming out right before Halloween which a few singles are out now. Then I’m almost done with a full length record that will be out next year which is my finest work to date in chasing this sound I spoke about earlier. It’s all about love in all its stages of romance and grief. As far as why and should, take a listen to a song they’re all quite different up to this point. If you like it listen to some more.
