Interview with Andrew Cärter

For readers discovering you for the first time, how would you introduce yourself and your music?

“For people who are just discovering me, I would describe my music as unpredictable. Every song is a new experience and I strongly believe that there is a song I made that someone will deeply relate to. As for how I am introducing myself, I want people to know that I am coming for the top and I’d recommend them all to start investing in me now.”

What is the story behind the name Andrew Cärter, and why did you choose it as your artistic identity?

“I am Andrew Cärter. I wanted to keep my real name Andrew, but I wanted to separate the second half from my personal life and my music life. I chose Cärter because all of my idols such as Beyonce, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, etc all have the last name Carter and I felt like it was a destined last name to have. The reason why I spelled it the way it is, is because there was a music page under the Andrew Carter name and my music would get mixed up and placed onto their page.”

When did you first realize that music was something you wanted to pursue seriously?

“I’ve always sang since I was little, but growing up I’ve always leaned towards basketball over being a singer. It took my best friend in our freshman year of high school to make me consider switching from sports to music. I’ve been writing songs ever since I decided to make the switch and I haven’t looked back. Switching to music and giving up sports was probably the best decision I’ve ever made. What made me lock into music was when my best friend and I took a trip to LA to write and record my first demo.”

Which artists, genres, albums, or musical experiences have had the greatest influence on the sound you are creating today?

“My main idol in all of music is Beyonce. I’ve listened to her since I was a baby all the way til present day. She made me fall in love with music and is the reason why I chose to be a singer. As for my sound, I take influence in my favorite artists such as Billie Eilish, Finneas, Charlie Puth, My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Harry Styles, Lana Del Rey, etc. All of these artists that I’ve listed have shaped who I am and the type of music I make. As you listen to my songs you will hear hints of these artists and how I combined their sound with mine. My music is on every platform possible if you would like to hear more and look into my discography. I hope everyone listens to my new album “Don’t Worry, I Still Love You (Forever Edition)”. It is a story album that is cohesive from start to finish in which I will soon adapt into a movie in the near future. The album is about a death in a relationship and all the roads that lead up to it. As said before, every song in my album leads into the next just like chapters in a book.”

Where can we hear more, and why should we?

“You can hear more on any sort of music platform that is available to you. I’m not the type to force my music in anyone’s face, they can listen if they want to, but I would say if you want to hear and feel something authentic and real then my music is ready for you to experience. Lots of labels make their artists create songs strictly for viral TikTok’s. I make my music to relate to people and their experiences. I hold nothing back when it comes to my lyrics, so I’m confident that there is a song for anybody to relate to.”

Anything to add here?

“My album Don’t Worry, I Still Love You (Forever Edition) just released recently. It is a story album where every song leads into the next. It is about a tragic death caused by a relationship and all of the roads that led to the death. Currently I am writing new music for next year, because this album is the first of a trilogy I am creating. Stay tuned with my upcoming music to hear the continuation of the story.”
