Issue Sixteen- August 2021:
By Mercedes Barreto
What is the beginning of a craft, and what defines it? Does it include years of experience in such fields of practice and profession, or something much more? Andrew Rosales is an actor & music artist who has begun his craft successfully with experience and talent to make his signature mark. We read upon his progress in this informative and guided article.
What do you do to prepare before a role/part in a film? What is your drive, your inspiration?
“What I do to prepare before my part is put myself in the atmosphere/setting of the film or what was discussed with me. I also sit down and really think about the story and try to feel all the emotions. What inspires me is the fact that I can express myself and really give it my all for everyone to see and hear. When it comes to me acting, of course.
It is such an amazing feeling to have the opportunity to make art of out something, and that, I think, is what drives me the most.”
If the act of practicing and participating in film and theatre ‘died’ for one year, and it was prohibited/ forbidden by the government globally, in some strange legislature, for some odd reason, what would you do to show your total angst and rage, expressing the madness of such prohibition? What would that kind of ‘purge’ mean in your life? How would it mark you as an actor?
“If the act of practicing and participating in a film and theatre was prohibited for a year, and I had to express my rage for such an act, it would be as follows: I would start by getting all my actors and actresses together to make one big social media post, to then bring worldwide attention to the issue, and cause an uproar to get the attention of whoever instated such an act.
What I would do, also, is set up a petition for everyone to sign and send it over to the people who decided to prohibit it. Then, I would gather everyone that I know and who has worked on it to come and set up a protest in front of the office that makes such decisions. What that kind of purge means in my life is the end, but not the end of everything, it’s just the end of that chapter. How it would mark me as an actor is that I would branch out and find new ways to express my artistic ability in life, either from making music or becoming a good influence on the world and making a change.”

If you could pick two co-actors to work and act with side by side in a soon-to-be hit blockbuster film, becoming instantly famous, who are the two industry icons of choice? Why so?
“If I could pick two co-actors to work side by side with it would have to be Michael B Jordan as one and Kevin Hart as my second because Michael B Jordan and Kevin Hart have done so much when it comes to the film industry and made a pathway for actors like myself and really had an impact on my life in itself as I was growing up and brought smiles and laughter across every household in the world while doing what they love. But the main reason I would choose them is that they never give up, and I bet having them there would teach me a lot more than I ever could teach myself.”
Could you please describe in full detail just three words that include describing your initiation into acting? Where did this all start? What is your history, and was it easy? How so?
“When I started acting it was pretty random, to say the least. I started back in high school freshman year. I was walking to my first class in the morning on my first day when I accidentally bumped into a teacher. After that, he turned around and said, “are you interested in acting/film?”. At the time, I had no sixth-period classes, so I said “yeah.” After that point, I met a classmate who then invited me to be on set for a short film. As I was on set for the short film, just trying to learn, I got asked by the director if I can fill in a place for a side actor, and the rest was history! It was a smash hit in my hometown.
It was easy, to say the least. For the first time when I was acting, I was very nervous and stressed out. I was pretty much overthinking it… I did well, but with a little bit of support, it definitely got simpler over time.”
When you see success, what do you believe is the true measure of it? What would be the ideal rate of success for you in a given time span, of a certain number of years? Why so?
“When I see success, I take it very lightly and not to my head, because success was not always there for me and I know I could do more. The ideal rate of success for me would have to be the impact I have on others or on the world in a given time span. I have always wanted to make a change or give motivation to others just as the actors I watched while growing up gave to me. And, money would be a plus, so I can really get to work and change lives.
That’s why it’s my ideal rate of success.”
What are some upcoming projects and things you are planning on? Where can we find them if we wish to, and why should we, above it all?
“Some upcoming projects and things I’m working on are my newest short film that will be directed and filmed and have a cameo by me. I am also working on a big feature film role that I cannot say yet, but it will shock the world, so stay tuned for more short roles in big music videos!
You could find all the updates on my upcoming projects and future roles on my Instagram page or just look me up! @andrewr_mx”
Anything to add here?
“One thing to add is: the sky is the limit in life and never give up on your dreams.”
