For readers discovering your music for the first time, how would you describe yourself as an artist?

“I’m Mark Cee — an indie folk singer-songwriter recording out of a home studio on Long Island. I’ve been writing songs for about 30 years, but I only recently started releasing them the right way, with real intention behind each song instead of just putting things out into the void. I’m a studio artist by choice — no live shows, just records built carefully, one take and one honest performance at a time.”

What first inspired you to pursue music professionally?

“Honestly, it’s been a lifelong pull rather than a single lightning-bolt moment — songwriting has been part of who I am for three decades. What changed recently was deciding to actually treat it like a craft to share, not just a private habit. I wanted to see if the songs I’d been writing quietly for years could actually connect with people if I gave them a real shot — proper mixing, proper mastering, a real release strategy.”

How would you describe your sound, and how has it evolved over the years?

“I’d call it indie folk with an Americana lean — intimate, a little melancholic, built around acoustic guitar and voice first. Where it’s evolved is mostly in the production: I used to record with whatever I had on hand, and now I’m much more deliberate — better mic technique, cleaner gain staging, real mastering discipline. But the core hasn’t changed and never will: I want the recordings to sound human. No AI, no over-produced gloss. If you can hear the room and the breath, that’s the point, not a flaw.”

Who have been your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your songwriting?

“Bon Iver, Donovan, Beatles, early Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, — that’s the lineage I’d place myself in. What they all share is restraint: they trust a quiet vocal and a simple chord progression to carry real weight. That’s what I chase — songs that don’t need to shout to hit hard, where the storytelling and the space around the notes do the work.”
