Jeremith Rainces- Highly Imaginative Persona (Director & Actor) (July 2021)

Issue Fifteen- July 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

What does the reflection of one’s own persona, in a physical or characteristical state, provoke in one’s mind? Do we as humans often look in the mirror and see flaws or things that we value when mirroring our faces in the glass? Jeremith Rainces says that ever since he saw his own self on the big screen, his mission has been to seek more of his reflection via acting in movies and directing. In this article, we discuss his ambitions as an actor and directing aficionado, and why he deserves this merit in his own words.

What do you feel had been the start of this for you, not just in terms of your passion and its beginnings, but a moment where you felt your career was reaching higher heights, either in your work ethic or in the level of your profession?

“I believe it all started when I found a college that included a film & theatrical program, The New York Film Academy. There is when I really showed my level of passion by a group of artists in a small community building down in South Beach, Florida. I knew at some point in my life this would be my form of art where I developed my work ethic more than anything I have ever done in the past. It’s probably the only thing I’m really good at and it encompasses what it’s like to venture myself into another person’s life’s story. I continued it and earned my degree in acting for a film program. I’m still proud of what I’ve done for the past 3 years in school and outside of the program. I’m still growing and learning.”

What are three words in full detail that describe your passion for theatre and film, and why should we watch you on the big screen next? Above someone else, even? What makes your acting as special as it is, in your opinion?

“I would say an adventurous, powerful, and in-depth highly imaginative persona. I saw myself on a big screen from a student project back at the university film festival. It’s actually incredible just for small parts of the scene, and some actors don’t enjoy watching themselves on screen, but I do, and I always look back on each take. Some directors would say it’s great, but I always make sure what I see is exactly how the character should be because I put in a lot of work to be believable.

I remember inspiring one of my acting coaches for doing impossible work sets for such a small task during a workshop experience. I wanted to push those elements and break down barriers showing vulnerability that would hold against me when they say action. I think that’s special to me.”

Has Covid had any effect on your schedule, routine, or in a general context? Why is this so?

“Honestly, Covid-19 has led me into depression. It removed many enjoyable things that most of us still are affected by today. Losing a job, losing social contact, graduating online. It was just such a heavy weight to carry.

I didn’t think I’d make it this far, but what kept me going is watching plenty of television and films through 2020. Each moment when the mood set in, I would pick up the camera and record myself. I did a lot of scene study as weird as it is, yet it was my only escape. I filmed the same scenes from either a movie or television using myself as the character I’d portray, plus portraying another character as myself. Again, this is since I couldn’t bring in anyone at my home during the pandemic.”

If you could be in a hit blockbuster film, and you had the opportunity to choose the settings so to speak, what role would you play, what theme and movie genre would be ideal, and who would watch it if you had a preference, and you could pick and choose, on a global scale?

“Since I’m a comic book geek, I would immediately say Batman preferably in the future. I know Robert Pattinson is going to be great for the new one coming next year. So I would choose The Crow. I highly respect Brandon Lee’s portrayal of the role, and may he rest in peace. I just find the setting, the story, the theme very fitting for me as a blockbuster film. Even though it’s a tragic story but filled with love and vengeance, it’s something to be told again in this young generation.

Besides vampires and universal monsters, I’m very drawn to the whole gothic genre that can be mixed with romance, superheroes, drama, mystery. I feel like there are many tales to be told for those who like that setting preference.”

What is your most comfortable or most preferred role to play? Why do you believe this is so and is there more than one?

“I don’t think I remember having a comfortable role. I mean I was nervous but it was a wild ride because most of them are daring and forthcoming. Strangely enough, when I played a drug lord gangster from a short film ‘True romance revamped’ inside a workshop we did in college, It was sorta like an embodiment that came over me.

It was one of my first breakthroughs because I never dressed up that way, having fake tattoos on my face, talking and walking differently, and the music. I never imagined myself doing a role like that. It was very surprising to me and my classmate.

I remember telling one of my friends how comfortable I was doing something different and explosive. It was one of my best acting moments that became true versatility for me.”

What are some upcoming projects, and where can we see this? Why should we all?

“So I have two projects, one of them I’m still working on a script and the other is a dream I had that could potentially lead to a feature film or Television series.

I drew a concept on paper with a pen from what I remember and wrote down what happened during that moment. These are two different stories. One is a drama mystery and the other is an antihero horror fiction. Think of it as the movie Se7en by David Fincher and the other is Venom from Andy Serkis.

I want to push these two through the big screen and a network where people can start streaming in their homes on HBOmax, Netflix, globally. It would be my own story to tell and possibly direct it. That’s why people should consider watching whenever they have the chance.”

Is there anything you would like to add here?

“Yeah. I would say to every artist, anything that you have in mind, put your heart into it.

Work with anything small that you have and grow from there. You can definitely change the world through perspective. Since social media is so much bigger now because of the pandemic, the internet is filled with global artists and communities. Everything gets shared online, it is truly amazing how many people get messages and emails from something so big that changed their life. I know that movies and video games, music via entertainment changed my life the way I see things in the world and I love creating tales and content, just never stop creating because somewhere along the line it will be historical credit from you.”
