We discuss the past and upbringing of an artist worth listening to. Please read Jess Paternoster’s latest update in this guided rising talent article.

What is the very first memory you have ever had of music? What was that like?

This karaoke machine my mom gave to me was when I started singing. The first song I sang was “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from Wizard of Oz. I was maybe around age 5 when my family discovered that I could sing. Everyone was shocked and impressed with my singing as a kid. Ever since then, that’s when I got involved in Chorus and Plays/Musicals.”

When did you start playing instruments and music? What was your first experience, either with an instructor or an institute? What instrument and at what age?

“I started singing at 5, but I just started taking voice lessons. I taught myself basic piano through YouTube Tutorials at age 13 and have my keyboard I play around with. I still have a lot of practice and learning to play the piano. That will be my main instrument besides vocals since I got the long fingers. I also just started learning acoustic guitar, and my boyfriend Daniel Madeson is giving me lessons for it while I still practice and learn on my own time. I would love to be a shredder with an electric guitar, but I have a long way to go.”

Who is an undeniable inspiration in your life, one that you have had since an early age?

“Demi Lovato because she’s been my idol since I was a pre-teen when she started in the Camp Rock movies. My younger self loved her because of her beautiful, powerful vocals, but I now really appreciate her music more. Her music immensely inspires me because it’s the type of music I want to write about how vulnerable and relatable they are. I love how her genre went from Pop to now more Pop Rock style, which I want to focus on as a musician.”

Which place or venue that you can recall from your past would make for a great place to perform in today’s present day? Why would you go back?

“The Chance Theatre in Poughkeepsie, NY, when I performed there three years ago with my friend’s band. I have more reason to go back there now since I now have my band, SplatterHead. I felt so lively, like I belonged on that stage, having the time of my life and doing what I love. I hope to be back on that stage shortly and have many opportunities to perform there.”

If you can recall a song you were taught or sang in your childhood, what is that one song you always remembered, and why?

“I think “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from Wizard Of Oz would make sense since that was the first song I sang as a kid. I want to recreate that special moment now that my voice has matured and evolved.”

When you think about music, do you believe you were destined for it from an early age? Why and how so?

“Absolutely! Since I sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from Wizard Of Oz as a kid, I fell in love with singing, and it has always been my passion growing up. I always looked forward to chorus /play/musical/ acapella rehearsals.  I even love going to band rehearsals/voice lessons/ karaoke /open mics, and I’m excited about future gigs coming up this year. Singing has always been very therapeutic to me. I started taking it a lot more seriously now that I’m an adult and already got my college degree in Bachelor of Arts. This is the time for me to explore more with music since I already had my time playing sports all these years and with art as well. My biggest dream is to win many Grammys, become the most music-streamed artist worldwide, and perform at big music venues like Madison Square Garden, TD Garden, Sofi Stadium, and many more well-known music venues all over the world. I have always envisioned it since I was a kid, and even now, having this fantasy of me singing in front of a vast audience, and the crowd loves me! I can make that happen with my hard work and desire/motivation!”

If you could take any moment in your childhood and recreate it musically, what is the one song or musical style that describes that moment of nostalgia?

“Like I said when I sang for the first time in my life at five years old, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” from Wizard Of Oz. It was an extraordinary moment that I constantly think about and want to recreate as my adult self now. I remember how impressed my family was; they encouraged me to sing more. I was a timid singer then. Now I’m the complete opposite. That day was the beginning of my evolution as a singer and up to now, finally taking the step to make singing/songwriting my career.”
