Jesse Sprinkle- Better Places (2019)

Issue Three- February 2019:

By Mercedes Barreto

How would you describe your music album, ‘Better Places’? What inspires or inspired it?
“I’d have to say you’re the first person on earth to ask me to describe this record!
To start, these are extremely personal songs that are very close to my heart. I don’t write music so much to reach a market or demographic, but for people who may hopefully someday connect or relate to my experiences.
I typically write from personal experience more than writing stories or on topics. The running theme for this project is dealing with death and loss. This album is dedicated to those who have passed in my life. So there’s lots of pain and joy simultaneously happening.”

If you could describe your music, how would you describe it, in regards to its uniqueness or its tone?

“I suppose if I could describe my music in one word it would be “genuine”.

It may be filed under the “singer-songwriter” genre. Not quite just an acoustic singer, but not quite a band.
I prefer to keep it sentimental and down to earth.

With so much over-produced pop music happening these days, I would like to remain a voice for those who crave the simple things in life: heartfelt songs with real instruments, made by real people. My influences range from the ’60s 90’s alternative, and even underground hip hop.”

Is there a message to future potential fans of your artwork?
“Again, I’ve never had a human ask me about a message for future fans…… That would mean that you are assuming that current fans in fact do exist!

But yeah, I’d tell them that more projects are on the horizon. They may come in different shapes, sizes, and colors, but it’s all still Mr. Sprinkle.

In fact, I feel that if I’m not drawing from all of my musical experiences, and all of my life experiences, that I’m doing wrong… I see myself in the future becoming more and more honest with my heart, my life, and my musical influences. Take for instance my latest single. “Certain Science” covers far more personal and painful topics than I am usually comfortable expressing. But I’ve found through the years that the people I truly look up to, don’t hide behind the facade of having things together. Painful honesty will always inspire those who are hurting and in need. It doesn’t or shouldn’t have the opposite effect.”
