“John Lebanon is a musical home for stories about identity, belonging, and finding beauty in unexpected places. The project blends indie folk, alternative rock, experimental pop, and influences from both the Levant and New England. Rather than chasing a particular genre, every song follows its own path. Some are intimate acoustic reflections, others are larger cinematic arrangements, but they’re all connected by honest storytelling and a desire to make music that feels genuine.”

The name “John Lebanon” has an interesting story behind it. How did it evolve from a nickname into your artistic identity?

“The name actually started as a joke among friends. Wherever I went, people would introduce me as “John from Lebanon,” and eventually it became “John Lebanon.” Over time, it took on a deeper meaning. I realized it represented someone carrying their homeland wherever they go. As the project grew into a full band, the name became less about me personally and more about the shared experience of crossing cultures, building new lives, and finding common ground through music.”

Your music blends indie folk, rock, pop, and experimental influences. How do you decide what direction each new song will take?

“I never start with the goal of writing in a particular style. I usually begin with a melody, a lyric, or simply an emotion I want to explore. The arrangement develops naturally from there. Some songs ask for an acoustic guitar and very little else, while others gradually grow into something much bigger with electronic textures, horns, or layered guitars. I enjoy letting the song dictate where it wants to go instead of forcing it into a formula.”

Storytelling plays a central role in your music. What draws you to narrative-driven songwriting?

“Stories help us make sense of our lives. I’ve always been fascinated by how music can capture memories, places, and emotions in a way that feels timeless. Many of my songs are inspired by personal experiences, but I hope they leave enough room for listeners to discover their own meaning in them. If someone hears one of our songs and feels understood, comforted, or inspired to reflect on their own journey, then the music has done its job.”
