What is your inspiration, and what does music mean to you?
“People and emotions inspire me. I love writing stories in my songs about me or others who have affected my life. Artists that have made an impact on my sound have been Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Lady GaGa, Nat King Cole, The Zombies, Weezer, Albert King, Nina Simone, Steppenwolf, Beethoven and Liszt. Music means that it is for everyone! It is the most universal form of sharing. No matter the language you speak or where you come from, you can create a song and immediately understand it. The instruments speak their language, complimenting the words and sometimes standing alone wholly. Music is the most magical form of conversation.”
If you could highlight some of your favorite venues you’ve played so far, what are three?
“I have been fortunate to play at some iconic venues. If I had to narrow it down, my top three are The Bitter End, Daryl’s House, and 54 Below. Each one of these venues has hosted some of the world’s biggest household names. I am thankful to add my name to the list of people who have had the opportunity to share their work there.”
What words describe your musical style in just three words? Why so?
“Vintage, classic rock! My sound is based on blues and rock. It is a reflection of the two with a modern twist.”Â
When did you start making music? Why and how so?
“Since I was a young girl, I have been singing and writing. I would often be in class writing poems that I could tune into after school. I have always had melodies in my head since I can remember. My grandparents had me take piano lessons at a young age, and my mother put me in musical theater. With the combination of skills, I was fortunate to know how to write songs and bring them to life.”
Is there a particular moment in your life where you recognized your musical career achievement as a pivotal point of change in your life?
“I wrote and produced my musical, Could Have Been, a couple of years ago in NYC. It was my first time taking on a project like this, and I had much to learn. From writing sheet music to casting to directing, the responsibilities of putting on a show changed my career path and vision for my future. Seeing a group of people believe in my work and help bring it to life was amazing. It made me realize that I could do much more than write music. To this day, I have been putting up my shows and taking creative reigns of my work.”Â
Where can we find your music, and why should we do so? What makes Rita Posillico’s music the best?
“You can find my music on any streaming platform! My one release, ‘One Last Bite,’ is under Rita & The Playboys, and this year, I am releasing an EP under the name Moxie Poe. This EP is going to be a fun one, with a song for every listener. It features a mix of sounds from blues and surf rock to ballads. With themes of family, frustration, and love, you’ll have plenty of options to get one of these songs stuck in your head!”
Anything to add here?
“My dream is to tour the world with my music. I would love to share the experience of what I created with others. I hope to inspire and comfort others with my words, melody, and performance.”Â
Questions For The Photographer:
What did you feel was extra special or unique about this photo session?
“I met Rita when I photographed her band, The Bangos, at Daryls House in Pawling, NY, owned by Daryl Hall from the band Hall and Oates. She is the lead singer. She had a fabulous stage presence, along with an exceptional voice. I couldn’t have been happier when we later communicated through Facebook, and I learned she wanted to do a photoshoot with me. Besides being a great front person for the band, she is very attractive, and I knew the shoot would be up there on the list of some of my best photo shoots.”
What would you say or mention if you could recommend Rita Posillico’s music to other industry executives?
I would say from what I have learned about Rita after spending the day with her on the shoot, she sings in 2 bands, she does a solo act in her area, she is working on finishing up her first recording, and she also is a chorus director at a church, I believe she either still does or has in the PAST worked in “Off-Broadway.” WHO WOULDN’T WANT TO HIRE RITA???”
