“Red Skylark started as my solo project during my tenure with Black Owls. The name is taken from one of the songs I wrote very early on, but have not yet released.”

As a songwriter, do melodies or lyrics usually come first?

“Songs start out as musical ideas, usually a guitar riff or progression, then the general idea for the lyric and then melodies flow from that…”

Is there a particular song in your catalog that you feel best represents Red Skylark today?

“There are several from our 2020 release Run On..the title track, the song Shiver, and Soulfire gone are my faves.”

When you’re writing, do you picture an audience, or is the process entirely personal?

“Process is entirely personal, just coming up with ideas that appeal to me…then I just have to hope others will like as well.”
