Edition Eighty-Three- Week Eighty-Three:
Written by: Mercedes Barreto
What inspired this song and its vibe? Its lyrics?
“The Creator and ancestors first, the culture second. Revolutionary vibes only, the Fugees spin off just made it even more crazy. Everything we make is movement oriented so the content will always match. We’re looking to push our people towards collective awareness, collective self-sufficiency, collective self-determination and collective independence. Heavy on the 4’s.”
How would you describe the creative process that took place within the song’s creation? Is this significant and why so?
“The initial sauce came to me randomly. The Creator, the universe, the ancestors and the M’s did the rest. Tye was already set to be on it, we threw Hip in the mix and the rest is OURstory.”
Where did you find your inspiration and what started your music journey overall? Why and how so?
“Music was always in background, was tapped into its potential as far as movement so we’re running with it. The impact and influence of both HipHop/Rap and the platform of a top tier artist has been used against us for 30 plus years. We’re using for our benefit this time.”
What makes this song a potential favorite amongst crowds of listeners?
“It’s the truth, it’s different and it’s means something. Not another “nothing” like the other cuts circulating mainstream music.”
Where would you love for this song to play and be heard, if you could pick your top five places?
“In every Melanite or “Black” home, block, hood, neighborhood, town, city, state, country and nation. Every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year. 4ever!”
What makes The Score an iconic song for our times? Why should we be listening today?
“You would have to go back to Public Enemy to find as wave as mobilizing and litty as ours, we’re talking Fight the Power era. We just released it so it hasn’t reached that magnitude yet but we’ll get there and beyond soon enough. It’s just as relevant today as it was then and long before just like it’ll be relevant in years to come leading to our Independence. As long as Melanites or “Black” people are listening and tapping in for real, we’re good money.”
Anything to add here?
“40M.us, tap in. @Vof40M on all platforms, link up. Thank the Creator, the Universe and the Ancestors. Shoutout to the M’s and my people involved in the greatest fight of all, we got work to do.”
