Wayne Felber- Comedic Strategy (2019)

Issue Four- April 2019:

By Mercedes Barreto

Wayne Felber is a comedian who makes a living making people laugh, changing numerous lives ‘one laugh at a time’. Through his friendly character, and his comedic, humorous stand up, by the end of a show, you’ll start to feel like you’re talking to a hilarious friend you’ve only recently just caught up with.

What sparked your initiation into comedy?

“Ever since I was in Kindergarten, I was making people laugh. My first report card in Kindergarten told my parents, “All Wayne wants to do is make people laugh and daydream.”

As I got older, and after a divorce from my first wife when I was 34, I decided it was time to follow my dreams and make people laugh.”

Who, or what is your biggest motivation?

John Pinette, who has since passed, was my biggest mentor; my motivation is to ‘change lives one laugh at a time’.”

What is a goal you would like to achieve as a comedian in a given time?

“My ultimate goal in comedy was to have my comedy be my main job, and since around 2013, that’s been a reality.”

Do you get a vibe from certain crowds when you do comedic shows, either good or bad?

“I do a lot of corporate comedy for businesses, parties, fundraisers. So, I write a lot to fit the crowd.

Then, at comedy clubs, I do my own brand of comedy, which is more storytelling, as well as my twist on real life.

For instance, I’m a two-time cancer survivor, so I talk about that, but with a twist.”

What is a message to comedians who

are starting up, or to fans of your stand up?

“My advice to new comedians is not to overthink your new material, and have fun!”
