What have you heard personally from talents and their insights about the difference between a pro photographer and using a cellphone?
“Most talents don’t even realize how bad the cell phone photos on their FB page are until I show them mine comparing them. They typically rely on photos that their fans send them, and they are almost always cell phone photos out of focus and with no editing. They feel it’s now the time to take the step up for having professional photos.”
Could you list a few different kinds of music related venues, people, or events that should definitely consider hiring a pro music photographer if they are serious about their craft? Why and how so?
“Bands, venues, actors, singers, guitar players, keyboard players, all need good high-resolution photos that have been edited to achieve the desired effect for the promotion of what these folks do.”
Why are professional cameras better than cell phones, in tech terms?
“The biggest difference is that the resolution on most phones is only 6 -8 meg, while a professional camera shoots with 24-26 meg. The editing that you can do with a cell phone is limited but not so much with a professional camera.”
How do you go about scheduling photoshoots for music photography? What is your routine?
“There are two ways I set up a shoot. One way is to go out and look for bands, musicians, etc. when I see they are playing someplace nearby and then talk to them about a shoot of their show. The other way is that many of these same types of bands have heard of me and therefore they reach out to me to shoot an upcoming show for them.”
What are your pro tips for people just getting started with both music photography work and getting their photos taken?
“Learn to use your camera, learn the settings, know your editing software, and shoot, shoot, shoot! The more pictures you take, the better you will get at it. You will learn what works and what doesn’t, by using different lens for different effects.”
Where can we see your music photography work, and why should we hire you or a professional music photographer in our area today?
“Check out my Music Photography page on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/event.photography.jm.
People that want quality photos of what they do and who need to hire a professional to maximize the end result of what they get back from the photographer should check out the work, see where they have worked before and who they have worked with and then compare their photos with the typical cell phone photos on their page.”
