Edition Thirty-Four – Week Thirty-Four:

Written by: Mercedes Barreto

What is your career and profession all about in a few words?

“xNeeyah is foremost a Content Creator, followed by an Apex Legends competitive player, which involves me posting my creations to social platforms.  It also entails me promoting my brand and the brand of others through sponsorship and collaborations.”

What made you choose this career field?

“I chose this career because I realized the traditional path of higher education and what society deemed normal for me was actually not for me. I needed the freedom of creativity in a self-directed manner based on enjoyment and having fun. I also wanted to share the joy of my activities with others, and I get to do that through streaming and making videos.”

How do you respond when people ask you about your beginnings as a content creator?

“I always let them know that I left College because it made me depressed and genuinely was not beneficial emotionally and mentally. It was hard to let my Mom know of my desire to leave, and I was gratified that her response was supportive with the guidance that I had to do something.  So, I chose to become a Streamer. The agreement was to give me 1-year, which stretched to 5-years, because, with my Mom’s entrepreneurial experience, she knew 5-years was a typical timeframe to get a business thriving and stable.”

Why do you believe destiny has brought you to this point and with what impact?

“When I post on social media, I get many responses telling me how much they love my content, how much I inspire them, and how much they wish to be like me. That motivates me a lot and makes me happy. So as I progress forward, I want to continue doing more.”

Can you pick a saying or quote that best reflects on your current status in your life and career today in esports?

A quote that comes to mind is one by Arun Purang “Either push your limits or suffocate in your comfort zone.”

Why are esports and content creation fundamental to women? Why is it so important to you personally?

“Women must be represented in these spaces because men heavily dominate them. There is a stigma that women in gaming are bad at video games and cannot compete at high levels. So, when they do compete and hold their ground playing with men, there are shock factor responses marred in complete disbelief. This inspires other women to elevate their play to higher competitive levels.”
