Introduction
In an era where independent artists have more creative freedom than ever, few embody the true spirit of DIY musicianship quite like Shelly Cool Singer. A New York-based singer, songwriter, actress, and self-produced beatmaker, Shelly has embraced the challenge of creating music entirely on her own—writing, producing, and recording her tracks using GarageBand on her iPad. It’s a hands-on approach that reflects both her determination and her passion for artistic independence.
Drawing inspiration from icons such as Whitney Houston, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Dr. Dre, Shelly blends elements of R&B, neo-soul, jazz, house, and hip-hop into a sound that feels both contemporary and deeply personal. Rather than following a formula, she allows each release to explore different moods and experiences while remaining grounded in honest storytelling and infectious rhythms.
As she continues to expand her growing catalogue, Shelly represents a new generation of artists proving that creativity, persistence, and authenticity can flourish outside the traditional music industry model. Her journey is one of continuous growth, inviting listeners to evolve alongside her with every new release.
Short Review
Shelly Cool Singer’s music is driven by confidence, creativity, and an unmistakable sense of individuality. Her self-produced recordings demonstrate an artist unafraid to experiment, combining smooth vocals with groove-driven beats and soulful melodies that reflect her diverse musical influences.
What makes Shelly’s work particularly compelling is its authenticity. Every track carries the unmistakable imprint of an artist who has chosen to take full ownership of her creative process, from songwriting to production. That independence gives her music an organic quality, allowing each release to feel genuine rather than manufactured.
Whether delivering relaxed R&B grooves, jazz-inspired textures, or upbeat house-infused rhythms, Shelly consistently prioritizes emotion and connection. Her music feels like an open invitation into her creative world—one built on passion, resilience, and the belief that artistic growth is an ongoing journey.
Q&A
You wear so many hats as a singer, songwriter, producer, and beatmaker. What inspired you to become so involved in every stage of the creative process?
“My journey into music has been shaped by both passion and experience. I worked around major record labels and production companies, and I saw firsthand how women were sometimes treated in the industry. That experience made me realize that I would be better off building my own path instead of waiting for others to understand or support my vision.”

As an independent artist, what has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned while building your career?
“I started by taking audio engineering classes in New York City so I could learn how to record properly. From there, I invested in my own studio equipment and began making beats and developing my own sound. One of the biggest lessons I continue to learn is the importance of understanding contracts. Even when there is a written agreement, some people may try to change things verbally, so I have learned to be careful about who I work with and how business is handled.”
Your music blends R&B, neo-soul, jazz, house, and hip-hop. How do you approach combining these different styles while maintaining your own identity?
“I grew up in Brooklyn around people who truly loved music the same way I did. To me, loving music means being open to many different styles and sounds. My roots are in R&B, but I do not want to be confined to only one type of music. Just as I am multi-talented in singing, dancing, acting, and creating, I want my music to reflect the full range of who I am.”
Is there a song in your catalogue that you feel best represents who you are as an artist today?
“Someone once challenged me and said that I always make sad songs. “Lovin This Day” was my way of stepping outside of that box. It allowed me to create something happy, uplifting, and positive — a song that anyone can listen to and enjoy. I feel proud of it because it shows another side of me as an artist. What identifies me most, however, is music with soul and emotion. Whether the song is joyful, romantic, reflective, or heartfelt, I want people to feel something when they hear my songs.”
Where can we hear more, and why should we?
“You can hear more of my music at ShellyCool.com and on all major streaming platforms under Shelly Cool. Also, be on the lookout for upcoming music videos and several new collaborations.”
