Kayla Mcalvin- Acting Starts (July 2021)

Issue Fifteen- July 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

This particular aspiring actress caught my eye, as we take a peek into the life of the goals of a newer yet in her own ways accomplished actress, and what it looks like when Kayla Mcalvin, an actress of her whole life entirely, guides us through some chapters of the initiation into acting.

What inspired your beginning with acting? How so?

“I have wanted to do acting for pretty much as long as I can remember. There hasn’t ever been anything else that I saw myself doing for the rest of my life! I started with musical theatre at a really young age, then I started to pursue film and I truly fall in love with acting more every day.”

Has Covid affected your schedule or routine in any way?

“I started to pursue film acting during the pandemic, but since things are going back to somewhat normalcy, there are a lot more in-person auditions rather than self-tapes like I am used to.”

Has this been a positive or negative impact or both?

“Covid made me realize how important acting was to me. Because of the pandemic, I was not able to act as I would normally so it just made me miss it that much more. At the same time, since I was not doing what I love, it was super hard. It impacted my life both positively & negatively.”

What does success look like for you, ultimately, in a given time span, in a few year’s time? What does success mean to you?

“I hope that I gain more experience & be able to have more training in the art for acting in the years to come. So far I have met so many incredibly talented people in the film industry, and I have learned a lot from everyone that I have worked with. Success to me means continuing with my training (because actors never run out of practice!!) & to have exciting opportunities for doing what I love.”

If you could pitch your acting talent to three of the industry’s most important executives, on a global scale,
via the performing of a monologue of your choice,
what would you perform, and who would you pick? Why so?

“For the 3 important executives, I would choose Shonda Rhimes, Robert Kirkman, & Michael Schur. These are people who have created/directed some of my favorite series and I am a huge fan of their work. I truly believe that those three people are capable of making incredible things for the screen. I would perform Emily’s monologue from “Our Town” because it is one of my favorite pieces to perform and it holds a really special place for me.”

What makes you unique, in comparison with other actors? What is special about you, in regards to your style, your look, or what you contribute to production on and offset as an actress in the industry?
“I believe that I am unique in the sense that I have great enthusiasm on & offset and I am willing to go the extra mile to ensure that I put in my best efforts into the role. I love what I do in this industry & I contribute 110% of my talents to every project that I am a part of.”

How might someone learn more about your previous works
or your upcoming projects, if someone wishes to do so?
“I have 4 upcoming projects in production as of right now! I got cast in a Disney+ show coming this fall, 2 short films coming later this year, & one web series! Check out my IMDb, https://www.imdb.com/name/nm12439989/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0 , to see updates on any new projects!”

Describe in three words and in complete detail your passion for theatre and acting.

“Intense, Passionate, Driven.”

Is there anything you feel is important to add here?

“I appreciate anyone that has taken the time to read this! I am extremely excited & eternally grateful for the opportunities that I have had. Stay tuned!!”
