Kookie Fox- A Different Energy (Musician, Singer, Performer & Rising Talent) (September 2021)

Issue Seventeen- September 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

Every sound is technically unique, what with all variables of such a sound. However, for a sound to be truly unique, it must convey that feeling of only oneness. Kookie Fox most certainly conveys that feeling, in her music and in her works. We read up on her musical aspirations as a musician and more, as witnessed here in this guided and informative article.

Your music is extremely unique. What do you feel was the initiation of your music, in which you inspired this uniqueness?

“Thank you! I’ve been writing songs since I was 5 or 6 years old, I think I’ve always had a certain sound. Even when I try to sound like an artist I admire, I still sound like me. I didn’t always love that about myself, but I’m learning to embrace the unique.”

Would you say you have a special way of being when you perform on set, in a music video, when compared to the realities of life when amongst family, loved ones, and friends? Is there a difference on and offset? Do you put on a different face on video, and on set? Or is there a true authenticity in your music videos and such interpretations?

“I would say I absolutely put on a different energy. I’ve watched a lot of interviews with successful celebrities, and they all tend to have an alter-ego for when they have to be their own artistic selves. There is always authenticity because that alter-ego is still me. It’s still part of who I am, just a version of myself with more confidence, talent, and energy.”

Has Covid affected your ability to play, pursue, and perform? Or your schedule in general?

Covid has affected everything, I’m ready for her to leave. But I’m very thankful for social media since it reaches more people especially now that we’re all home due to Covid.”

What would be three words that describe your passion? What makes it different from the rest?

“Dedication, Creation, Good Vibes. My passion is different because I don’t always have it present. Being an artist is a state of flux, sometimes I don’t feel like a musician at all. But when I can channel my creative energy into a song, something magical happens and I’ve created something new.”

If you could pick two other artists to collaborate with, no matter their level of fame or general characteristics, who would you pick, and for what project?

“I have a whole list of artists I plan on collaborating with in the future. Right now Kehlani and Doja Cat are at the top of that list! I would need Kehlani on an R&B project, and Doja Cat on something experimental. Just waiting for the day I can make that happen!”

If for a whole year, the music ‘died’, and music was not heard or allowed, and was prohibited/forbidden by a global governing source, oddly enough, how would you express your rage and disbelief? How would this mark you as a singer and rising talent?

“I honestly don’t know how I would get through it. If I’m not making music, I’m listening to it or thinking about lyrics. I would definitely have to find another outlet, but I wouldn’t be able to feel the same without music.”

What are upcoming projects, and where can we find them? Why should we?

“I have an upcoming EP I’m working on with my roommate Lex, you can check my Instagram @sweetlikekookie for updates. You’re just gonna want to hear it, I promise.”

Anything you would like to add here?

“Thank you so much to Mercedes Barreto and The Talent Manual Magazine for having me and believing in me. I have a lot of exciting things coming soon, I hope y’all are ready!”
