Alona Johnson- Showcase Both Beauty & Personality (Model & Rising Talent) (September 2021)

Issue Seventeen- September 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

Beauty and personality, often, combine. However, the method of combination differs and is relative to your artistic interpretations of styles, themes, and other previous iconic derivations. This is the idea when discussing the topic of fashion and its industry. Model and rising talent, Alona Johnson, combines beauty and personality flawlessly and effortlessly in her career as a professional model and shares with us the gift of an insight into her aspirations, and more, in this interesting and guided article.

When and before modeling, do you have any pre-show jitters or nerves, and what is your way of dealing with them, if applicable? How do you stay calm, cool, and collected, to function well in the modeling line of work?

“When I first started modeling I would get nervous, and I would feel tingles and butterflies in my stomach. I would try my hardest to relax before going on stage, and I did this by encouraging myself. I would tell myself that, “You can do this, you are beautiful and confident.”. My first big show was in 2017 for Midwest Fashion Week. I had done many local fashion shows, but that was my first time doing one that had a guest list of five hundred people. My first time walking out I remember being a little nervous, and then after the second time I was ok. Then, I started to enjoy myself and try some different poses at the end of the runway. Since then, I have improved my walk tremendously, and I’ve taken runway classes. Now when I model in a fashion show, I very rarely get nervous. I enjoy and listen to the beat of the music and walk to that!”

Do you believe it is more important to showcase personality, or beauty, during a shoot or fashion runway? How do you portray this, if applicable?

“It is important to showcase both beauty and personality during a photo shoot or a runway show. One is not more important than the other, and they both go together. It also depends on the type of photoshoot it is and what is required. For example, I have done some beautiful fashion photo shoots with full glam hair and makeup. I have also done some very natural no makeup photoshoots for Nike sportswear or Levi lookbooks. Those photo sessions required me to have more fun and showcase my personality.”

Has Covid interfered with any working or general life activities? Has this been a positive or negative experience, regarding the pandemic?

“I have gotten more work and exposure during the pandemic than I ever have in my whole career. I feel as though it comes down to timing for the individual pursuing his or her career.”

What are three describing words that detail your perception of the art of modeling? Do you harbor an internal connection to the industry, the idea of fashion being home, or do you see modeling as just a more serious occupation?

“I would describe the art of modeling as abstract because it does not attempt to represent an accurate description of what most people see as an accurate description of visible reality. For example, it can be interpreted the way that you see it. Many designers interpret their fashion line and inspiration of how it is seen through their eyes but everyone may not see it the same way. It is also imaginative because you can create a line from scratch and make it come to life as a living product. And last but not least, it can be described as gifted, this is because only special people have the gift and creativity to come up with fashion and start and create trends and new styles. I will always have a love for fashion, and it will always be a part of my life. It is definitely here to stay. At this point in my career, I would consider myself a professional model.”

If you could spend the day in three top modeling shows as a featured model, which top three shows are your venues of choice if these venues are broadcasted throughout the world entirely?

“The top modeling shows I would want to be in are Fenty Beauty for lingerie or makeup. Louis Vuitton would be my second choice, and my last choice would be Coach. The locations that I would like to model in are Paris France, Dubai, and the Dominican Republic.”

Where can we soon expect to find and see more of your work, and
why is this special? What makes Alona Johnson a household name in modeling, and merits the following and viewing, as well as the reading of?

“I have been doing some very cool collaborations with some pretty dope photographers for Immo Klink, and Clarissa Bonet. They both can be found on Instagram. I have also some sneak peek clips of some runway shows that I have been in on my Instagram page of @miz_alona. I also have some short films that will soon be out that I am promoting as well as me acting in a documentary that will air on EWTN catholic network in December.”

Anything you would like to add here?

“Keep a lookout for me because I have some very cool projects coming up!”
