La Rasta- More Of A Storyteller (Musician, Artist, & Rising Talent) (October 2021)

Issue Eighteen- October 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

Why do people so often write their music based on life experiences? Does this make music more relevant, or more genuine? La Rasta is a musician and artist with genuine music and vibes, which we explore further here in this guided yet quite informative article.

What influenced your beginning in music? How so?

“My musical influences are from gospel singers, like Daryl Coley to R&B singers like Beyoncé. I grew up dancing with my siblings to some of the early music of Beyoncé and Destiny’s Child. I also sang in the church and was included in praise dancing in church. Being majorly influenced by music since I was a child has really influenced my life and the type of music I make today, in my opinion.”

What describes your particular style when it comes to your musical creativity? Would you lean towards being more unique, or would you describe your music as more traditional and as having a more classic edge to it? Or both?

“I’d describe my music as being more unique. Based on life experiences, or what I’ve been through previously, and what I’m walking into in the future. I honestly feel like I can tell the future in my life. Based on my previous music, I’ve walked right into the purpose of what I’m really supposed to be doing in life with my career. I am a traditional person somewhat, but when it comes to my music, I’m more of a storyteller. I’m more creative.”

What is your top, favorite song which you feel most resonates with your listening audience? Why do you believe this is so?

“The most recent song that I feel resonates with my listening audience would probably be “Oh Yes” by my other homie who is an artist as well, who goes by the name of Jesušiah. It resonates well with me because of the personal life experiences that I’ve been through. It’s like He’s explaining literally every feeling that I feel. It’s really amazing to me.”

If you could pitch your music to 3 top music industry pros, if for just a few moments, who are your top 3 executives of choice to pitch to, and why?
– My top 3 executives of choice would be La Rasta, Solana Rowe, and Ari Lennox. I feel those 3 are my top industry pros only because their music resonates so well with my spirit. Also, I would choose Beyoncé as a guide and to help with my career path. We have similar personalities wise but I honestly feel she is on a different wavelength at the moment and she’s busy working on music.”

Where do you see yourself in a few years or at a given time? What defines success for you, and does this have any correlation to timing?

“In a few years, I see myself running my own record label with several artists/signees. I also see myself performing live in many different states and countries and getting my business off the ground for good. I think everything you do in life correlates with timing. It has to be perfect timing. You’ll know. God will let you know, and when he does, you have to act on it immediately.”

Where can we find your musical craft and work, and why should we? What makes your music stand out?

“You can find my music on all streaming and social platforms. I’m on Instagram as @la__arasta. Twitter as @thereal_larasta. Facebook as @La Rasta. You can find my music on platforms such as SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music, and Live Mixtapez. If you want to hear RAW, UNCUT, AND UNIQUE MUSIC then you should definitely take HEED of my music. I’m a firm believer in equality and rights and I’m a mental health advocate in my community. I talk about some of my experiences in my music, actually. My music stands out because I don’t try to fit in with my creative approach at all.”

Anything you would like to add?

“Visit my website to get more in tune with me on a personal level. I’m never too busy or never too caught up to respond to a fan of my music or a believer of God. If you didn’t hear it from me and it’s about me, don’t believe it AT ALL.”
