Edition Eight-Week Eight:
By: Mercedes Barreto
Some connections last a lifetime. Milyssa and C-WIZ discuss the connection that inspired their latest musical release, available now to stream, in this guided yet very informative rising talent article.
What is the message you would like listeners to perceive with your music?
“I want people to have to think when they listen to my music. I’m all about words and wordplay. I come from poetry, so songs need to have meaning.-C-WIZ.”
“I want people to perceive my music as music that is honest. I want people to feel that just because you see people on the surface living their best lives as artists, we struggle with issues just like your average person. I think people have this idea because you are in the limelight, things are perfect. We are not perfect. We are human beings sharing our art to help and inspire. -Milyssa.”
How did this all come together, and when?
“Music for me is about feel. I have to feel the project, the beat, the purpose. This was no different. I wanted the sound to be different. -C-WIZ.”
“As corny as this may sound, I am still a work in progress. I am growing and learning each day. I am always evolving, so it is always coming together. -Milyssa.”
What is the working dynamic between you and C-WIZ? How do you get along on and off set?
“I think our creative juices flow off of each other. I think we push each other and hold each other accountable. No, ‘yes, everything sounds good.’ I think honesty is key musically. Outside of music, we are great friends and respect each other. We would be friends without the music. And I think that is important, at least to me it is. -C-WIZ.”
“C-WIZ is the brother I never had. We critique, tease, uplift, bicker, and everything in between. We don’t sugarcoat things. We are transparent about each other and our projects. We get along on and off set because we want each other to be the best. -Milyssa.”
What 3 industry executives would you pick to hear your music if you could showcase that music to them for just 5 minutes?
“Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Clive Davis, or Russell Simmons, each for my own reasons. -C-WIZ.”
“Prof from Stophouse/Blackbear/ I won’t lie. Unfortunately, I don’t have a third. -Milyssa.”
Could you describe with imagery in 2 words the theme that your music follows?
