Sabrina Sanicola- Ready To Be Recorded (Singer & Songwriter) (October 2021)

Issue Eighteen- October 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

What is it like when you get that first life-changing childhood experience or lesson? Can a musical experience as a child impact the way you see music? Sabrina Sanicola is a singer and songwriter that impresses us with her musical talent and in-depth musical experience.  We read up on her aspirations in this guided and informative article.

What got you started with singing and songwriting? What was, and is your motivation?

“Growing up, my parents were always introducing me to anything having to do with music, whether it be my mom’s music on the radio, The Beatles, Prince, Billy Joel, and so many more bands and singers from when she grew up, or my dad always making sure to have karaoke ready for us at all family events, I was always around music. In my elementary school days, I was inspired mostly by Adele, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, and Miranda Cosgrove. I first started writing my own music when I was 11, but the official songs I have ready to put out to the world are from 15 years old up to the current day. I had always felt something in me that is hard to explain, almost like I can see my future planned out in pictures for me, and I know that my purpose in life is to change the world with my music and my platform. It took years of self-discovery to understand that this was my purpose, and I still have lots of growing and learning to do, but my motivation every day is knowing that I’m working towards my goals to be a better person, to help others, and put out music that everyone is able to relate to and interpret in their own ways.”

How do you intend on becoming more successful in the future, and how successful do you believe you are currently? What determines true success for you?

“To become more successful, I plan on continuing to try growing my social media platforms by staying active, being real, and trying to inspire as many as I can. I plan to create social media advertisements, and I’m currently working on creating several songs that I’ll pass on to local bars and clubs looking for live performers to get my name known locally as well. Currently, I have about 20,000 total streams on the songs I have out, “Marionette”, “Psycho Bitches”, “Real Life”, and my most recent single, “Sharks.”
True success to me will be when I am able to inspire, help, and truly make a difference in people’s lives. True success will be when I am able to support not only myself but whoever else I can financially with my career. True success will be when I am finally seeing the pictures of my future from my head right in front of my eyes.”

If you could pick one song you originally created for the whole world to hear in five minutes, which song would you choose, right away? Why and how so?

“This question was extremely hard for me to answer, in fact, I had to really take a little bit to go back and forth and decide which direction I could go in. I could choose a song that shows off the more “broadway” aspect of my voice and has deep, but also sad meaning. I could choose one of the many songs I created to relate to my generation, the type with an upbeat, unique sound, all about partying and how our young minds think. However, I decided to go with a song that I feel almost anyone would be able to relate to, something that isn’t really talked about, but each person can interpret the lyrics based on their own experiences, and what it means to them. This song, unreleased, is called Mutual Paranoia. This song was inspired by my own anxiety and the things I tend to overthink about. Have you ever known somebody that you are inspired, but also a bit intimidated by? Someone who you think is so cool, so put together, you wonder why they want to be friends with you? Something I realized is that while I’m thinking these things, to my surprise, they’re having the same internal conflict. This song goes back and forth between two perspectives; mine, and yours. Some of my favorite contradicting lines; the ones from my perspective: “I think you’re so cool/probably always be winning/don’t play by the rules/your confidence convincing… I guess I could be wrong/but it’s just how it seems/the hell do I know what goes on in your brain?” And your perspective: “You think I’m so cool/shining ice always dripping/one thing you don’t know/that I barely was spending…You could not be more wrong/you think all of that’s true/shit little do you know I feel the same way about you.” This song means a lot to me because not only do I feel I was able to accurately capture the intensity of how it feels to have this anxiety in not one but two different sides of it, but also this song is not written in my usual genre and shows a much different side of what I am able to do with my voice and my talent.”

What are two words that describe some achievements in store for 2022? What do you have planned?

“Two words I feel would describe what achievements I have in store for 2022 would be “Growth” and “Change”. In the new year, I will be focusing on many ways to grow. I will continue with each day to learn about myself and my mind and the world around me, helping me to grow as a person. I will focus on growing my audience by using many different forms of advertising, both traditional and unique. I’ll be pushing myself out of my comfort zone to enforce positive changes in both my life and others’ lives. There are many days I find myself inside my head, regarding the little things, whether it be wanting to make someone smile by complimenting them or wanting to do something bigger to help a community. I tend to worry and listen to insignificant thoughts that stop me from doing these things. Again, I’ll be pushing myself out of my comfort zone knowing in the end nothing is ever as scary as anticipated. I will be my own change.”

If you could pick only one venue to play in the first performance of 2022 if you were to perform at that time, where would you perform, if you could pick any venue and any crowd?

“If I could pick a venue to put on the first performance of 2022, I would have to say Barclays Center in New York City. I have many dream venues that one day I will be fortunate enough to be able to play at, but I chose this one because it holds a special place in my heart. Barclays Center was the venue I went to multiple years in a row with an old friend, and my current best friend, to see our favorite band play. Each time we went, the concerts were better than the last. The music you can truly feel inside of you and in that moment in time when you’re watching your favorite artist perform, with the people you love right next to you and thousands of people all around you that all share the same love of the music, time stops and you’re just living for the minute in itself. Not worrying about yesterday, or tomorrow, just the colors and lights and vibrations and cheers all around you. I remember watching the concerts every year and thinking to myself every time, “I will be up there one day.” and to this day I still know it to be true.”

Where can we find your musical workings, and why should we? What makes your music a special niche in the industry?

“My music can be found through almost any streaming or download platform. Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, Youtube, Instagram, iHeartRadio, Pandora, and many more. An easy way to access my music is on my website, http://www.sabrinasanicola.com

My music is special because each one of my songs has an important meaning behind it, all of which can be read about on my website. I get inspired by my own experiences and emotions, as well as others’ experiences and emotions, pictures, titles, and energy I feel in a person or a situation. Almost anything can inspire me to write a song. The lyrics in my music will almost never be something you’ve heard before, as I try to steer away from things that feel too familiar or basic. All music is art, no matter what, but if I’m not satisfied with even one thing in a song, no one will hear it until I like it, and of course, everyone has their preferences to what they like. My lyrics will make you think. If one takes the time to separate my lines and break them down, there is almost always a much deeper meaning than what is first heard at the surface. I have made peace with the fact that there will be haters in my career especially, and not everyone will like every song I put out. In reality, most people can’t name an artist that they listen to AND enjoy every single last song they’ve ever put out. This I do know, however, I am confident that I have at least 1 song for everyone. I have many different genres of music because I’m always looking for ways to expand my style and challenge myself however I can.”

Anything you would like to add here?

“Most things about myself were said, but there’s always something more I can add! I’m 19 years old from Long Island. When I was 14 I started performing at a local theatre which is where my love for music and performing only grew. I was there for about 3 years where I performed in almost every show I could, my favorite role being Mrs. Hannigan in Annie. During the time I was there I was going through a lot of hard times mentally, but entering this theatre every day was a break from my reality, and at the time was the home that I needed to help me through my rough patch. I could get into it, but that’s an entirely separate article for another time! To make a long story short, however, these difficult times pushed me to change myself. I had to find myself, my worth, learn to love myself, and with all that I began on my spiritual journey. Though of course, I have my days still, I am a much happier and positive person, and each day I’m still learning about myself, but what I do know now is that my suffering was and is in the end, a good thing. I was able to find my purpose in life and realize my life goal is bigger than just my music. It’s to help others never feel the way I did in my difficult times. It’s to help others see the beauty in life, that no matter what, it’s just a bad day and life IS worth living. It’s to show everyone that someone does love them, stranger or not. It’s to help people who are struggling financially when I am fortunate enough to not be. It’s to help people realize we all are equal, we all are human and we all deserve 3 things in life I believe; happiness, kindness, and peace. I know what my purpose is, and though the road to get there may not be super clear yet, the more I grow as a person and learn about who I am, the clearer it all becomes.

As stated earlier I have 4 songs out currently, but close to 100 more written and ready to be recorded. I will be returning to the studio very soon to work on some very exciting future projects that I am eager for the world to hear!”
