What is the thrill of performance? Does this apply to the performer, or the listener, and to what principle do we owe the fun? Thanks to the hard work behind it by musicians and backstage workers alike? Sue Maskaleris is a successful Brazilian Jazz musician who brings the thrill of performance to life. We hear her aspirations and witness her success, in this guided yet informative article.
What are some recent advancements which you would like to share with the world? Why so?
“I’ve been planning a CD release show for my new recording, ‘Love Is the Key.’ It will be at the Jazz Forum on Oct. 3, at 4 and 6 pm in Tarrytown, NY. We are doing songs from the CD along with two new compositions and some Brazilian classics.
I just finished four afternoons in lovely Bryant Park, NYC where I have performed annually for around 15 years. I perform a lot of my own music and lyrics there to a receptive audience.”
What are some words that describe the mood and feel behind your most recent workings? What brought them to life?
“Hearing my new songs played by great musicians is always a thrill. And even more so because they like the material.”
If you could pick two words that now define your current success, what are those two words, and why pick those words? What has defined success for you lately?
“To be finally performing my music for an audience after the pandemic hiatus is a great relief.”
If your music could be heard on the top radio stations in three countries, which countries would you pick, and for what reasons?
“USA, Brazil, and Greece. I did get a lot of airplay in the US. And some other countries, too. Since the music is Brazilian jazz and played by many Brazilians, it would be nice to be played there. And for my Greek American heritage, I choose Greece.
Where can we find your musical workings, and why should we? What makes Sue Maskaleris’ music the most unique or special?
