Dream Aria- Lingua Cosmica (Music Video) (June 2021)

Issue Fourteen- June 2021:

By Mercedes Barreto

What is it about aliens that seem to make our minds ponder, and ponder? Theories and other mindsets seem to suggest different possibilities, about life where there is no life. But many new interpretations arise when spectating Dream Aria’s new music video for their newest single, ‘Lingua Cosmica’.

What drew you to the idea of the theme behind the song ‘Lingua Cosmica’, and in its music video as well? Why so?

“The idea behind the song “Lingua Cosmica” began with a conversation Don and I had about communication with aliens and other inter-dimensional beings. We wondered how the exchange would take place. Would it be through Math, Science, Music, Telepathy, or some sort of other languages of their own? I decided to Google “alien communication”, which is when I discovered the idea of “Lingua Cosmica”. Upon learning more, I thought it would add to our original ideas and make for an even further interesting topic, that had a mystical allure. The band and I talked about these concepts and at that point felt to run with them. This is our full explanation of the song:

“Lingua Cosmica is about a cosmic communication between an alien intelligence and a human. How wondrous would it be to have that interaction? What would it sound and look like and would we understand each other? How would we “make it so”, to quote the noble Captain Picard?

Astrolinguistics is the study of interstellar languages and the possibility of communicating with the use of an artificially created language that is self-contained without including certain aspects of ‘natural’ languages. Lingua Cosmica means a language system based on applied logic, the understanding of which might be expected from a civilization that has developed technology advanced enough to receive radio emissions. Have we received any communication transmissions and if so, what do they mean? The idea of possible decoding and understanding could be well within our reach.

Perhaps one day or are we already there? Recent developments cited by the American government suggest we might be, having admitted to many UFO, or as they call them, Unidentified Ariel Phenomena (UAP), sightings. In the meantime, join us on this trippy, wild, musical ride!”

When envisioning the final product regarding your music video for this song, what do you expect the public audience will say? Positive or negative commentary, and why?

“Regarding feedback, just like with anything one puts out into the public, you are of course open to all sorts of commentary, usually positive and negative. So with that in mind, we expected no different but were of course hoping for positive which at this point has been the case. We are very grateful for the wonderful critique! We also were very aware that the song and video would be open to personal interpretation. We had our own ideas behind it all but are enjoying learning about how others define the lyrics and images.

In this particular case, there are really no right or wrong answers, just various versions of personal belief systems. Variety is the spice I say!”
Who do you think will be the first group of individuals to recognize the video and give it the appreciation it deserves? What kind of recognition do you believe that it deserves?

“Each time we release something new, our long-time niche market of fans quickly find out on the various social media platforms we use, being Facebook, Reverbnation, and YouTube, mostly. Because many of them know us so well and are fully aware of how eclectic we are, I am sure they are not usually surprised by anything fresh we create. This stands with this song and video as well.

So far this group of people has been telling us how much they love the song’s music and concept as well as the video and its story-telling imagery. At the same time, due to word of mouth and promotion, we have recently acquired new fans who like experimental and progressive rock or just something different. We are always appreciative when new folks hop onboard! As far as recognition goes, we cannot truly be our own judge of what any of our creative works deserve. We leave that up to the listeners and viewers! But at the end of the day, as a band, we are happy with and proud of the final result of the song and video thanks to a great collaborative effort.

We feel the messages within may be intriguing, timely, thought-provoking, and of interest to any who might care to listen and watch. This is our intention, anyway!”

Are you satisfied with the creation process, and what was that like? In specific details, regarding the final idea in that process?

“The creative process for me, and I believe for the lads in the band, has been and will always be, where the real ‘magic’ is. There is an almost divine element in creating something from nothing, from out of the ether.

Or perhaps ‘tapping into’ a ‘source’ that we cannot see. So in writing and recording the song and envisioning the video, there was excitement, anticipation, gratitude, and a sense of accomplishment.  We worked quite naturally together, as always. We had wondered what it might be like to work with someone new though when it came to the video, which is a natural feeling of course. Thankfully, we had been in touch with Miss Mercedes Barreto, with whom we had a very smooth working relationship and trusting rapport. She was able to ‘see’ our vision and piece together the images we had provided to her as well as of her own accord search out and use other elements that fit perfectly together.

The result is a very professional, well-thought-out, flawlessly put together, visual adventure and story. We are more than satisfied with and very thankful for the overall fantastic job she did. Personally, I would be happy to work with her again.”

What are three words that you would use to describe the emotion in the song, and its connection in the feel of the video?

“Three words I would use to describe the emotions the song and video invoke are wonderment, excitement, and curiosity. But again, to each, their own I say, as we all interpret and feel things differently.”

Anything you would like to add or share here?

“To finish, on behalf of the band and myself, I would like to thank all of our family, friends, fans/supporters, DJ’s, radio stations, YouTubers, and collaborators for listening, watching, and giving us their feedback and aid in so many ways, on so many levels for the last nearly 20 years that we have been writing, recording and sharing our works! You are all MUCH appreciated.

And on a personal note, and most of all, thank you to my fellow bandmates who have been a joy to work with all this time! I hope we can continue until we are all sitting in our ‘rockin’ rocking chairs. I am blessed and most grateful every day. And of course a special thank you and shout out to Mercedes Barreto for her help with the video and this interview.”
